Conflicted is the first book in the Secrets and Lies Series. Mia Ryan didn’t have the glorious family life growing up and suffered the worst betrayal from someone she trusted. Her ex ripped her world apart, destroyed her in every sense. She has severe trust issues because of the hurt she suffered and keeps a close guard on her heart. She fortunately has fantastic roommates who are ultimately her family.

Mia is determined to pick her life back up and a golden opportunity comes her way. But is finish line worth the risk she will take for this job? She dives in determined but cautiously and even a little guilty knowing what she has to do. Putting herself in an unknown situation that could potentionally turn dangerous and it seems like everyone is hiding something, secrets are flying all around.

Insert Ethan Fitzgerald. One of those guys that you just know youre in deep the minute you lay eyes on him. Hot, sexy and demanding. He turns her on, torments her at the same time without even trying. He has his sights set on Mia, even though she knows she needs to avoid getting involved with him simply for the reason of why she is there working in the first place and in his world. Will Ethan find out the real reason shes there and what will happen when he does?

This book is a romance and so much more. Mainly told from Mia’s point of view, I would like to hear what Ethan is thinking this whole time. The fire between Ethan and Mia, is wow. They have such an attraction and explosive chemistry. The connection she has with her roommates, just makes me want to have roommates like them. Each has a completely different personality which brings out different parts of Mia. This book will definitely have you saying WTF and keep you on your toes, not mention melting your panties off at some point! I can’t wait to see what else is in store and also see what happens with everyone else in the story. 4 out of 5 stars!

Kate Landry is a single mom and owner of the Bluebird Saloon in Trustworthy, TX. She has not had an easy life but has always risen against her odds and made something of herself. Maintaining so much control over everything in her life, she has forgotten how to actually live.

Liam St. James has been wondering through life after he was left heartbroken. He never stays around long enough for a relationship so he won’t get hurt again. On his travels he ends up at the Bluebird and gets hired as a bartender so he can make some quick money and move on to the next town.

“His sole objective had been to make enough money to get to the next town. To keep running. He hungered to plant roots, deep roots, permanent roots.”

Both Kate and Liam have deep trust issues but will their attraction to one another help them overcome their pasts? Will both learn how to trust one another, or will they be pushed to their limits?

I have to say this was not a typical love story. Kate has had a horrendous past where she was deceived into becoming a submissive and abused. When she found out she was pregnant she ran away only to be turned away from her father and left to survive on her own. I loved how strong of a person she was to not only survive that, but also to come out on top with owning her own business.

In order to help Kate get over her past, Liam shows her how the BDSM lifestyle can be healthy and rewarding. Being an experienced Top, he wants to show Kate that how she was treated before is not the norm and that she was worthy of so much more than she thought.

“He’d make goddamn sure she experienced the best from him. Because that’s what she deserved.”

This is truly a BDSM book, and gives the reader insight as to how the lifestyle really is. Not necessarily all kink but how trust is such a huge factor in the relationship. I did enjoy this book but I felt as though the ending was rushed. I gave this 3.5 out of 5 stars.
