“Racism is a refuge for the ignorant. It seeks to divide and to destroy. It is the enemy of freedom, and is meant to the met head on and stamped out.” Pierre Berton

Holy freaking crap!! I mean WOW!! This book was AMAZING! Hands down one of the best books I have EVER read. It will stick with me for a very long time! I truly believe that this book should be required reading for any human (maybe minus the sexy bits depending on the audience LOL). This book had every emotion. I swooned, I sobbed, I laughed, and I cried tears of joy. About half way through I messaged KC and K and told them that I was scared and they told me to keep going, that I’d be surprised with how things end up. Let me tell you, surprised doesn’t even begin to cover the emotions I felt throughout this entire book.

Our heroin, Olivia Bradshaw, would have every right in the world to be bitter and cold, she was orphaned at a young age and moved in with her grandparents. She lives at her grandparent’s farm and helps take care of the farm and her grandfather. Her grandmother passed away a few years back and all she is in the world is her Pap. Olivia is a young white school teacher in a primary black school, but this is not something she has ever factored into her daily life. She is simply teaching her students to love reading and that they are worth more than what they may think they are worth. She is good and kind and amazing. She looks at the PERSON not the color of their skin or their religion or their place in society. She wants to see the good in everyone.

“I’ve had a love of reading for as long as I can remember. I love getting lost in a story, to take a break from reality, and live in another world. There’s no feeling like it. I’ve read so many books that it feels like I’ve lived a thousand lives.”

There has been tension brewing in the small town of Harmony Falls due to recent robberies and vandalism of local farms. Fertilizer is being stolen for the drug market and farms are being burned. When someone breaks into the Bradshaw farm, Pap does not hesitate to protect his family and his property. Retaliation is sought and Olivia is hurt, badly. Little does anyone realize, there is so much more going on under the surface in this small town.

“Why does there have to be sides? Why does it have to be about color? Why can’t it be about right and wrong?”

“Because that’s not the f****** world we live in.”

“Well then, I choose peace. “ “I choose love, not hate.”

“You need to wake up, Liv. That’s not the real world and it isn’t ever going to be.”

Our hero, Grayson Taylor, is a deputy sheriff and has been brought up with the knowledge of right and wrong. He was raised to do what it is right. When he finds Olivia after she is attacked something in him is changed. His desire to protect Olivia and find justice for her is stronger than anything he has felt. While seeking justice secrets are unearthed that no one could have prepared for. Family histories are brought to light in a way they have never been seen.

“…always seek the truth and stand up for what’s right. It will always be about right and wrong. We’re all in this together, and as long as we stand united, justice will always prevail.”

Can love and peace over power hate and discrimination? Can truth and justice prevail over lies and wrong doing?

“WE STAND TOGETHER.

PEACE and LOVE.

RISE ABOVE the HATE.”

This book was PHEMONENAL!! When I heard what KC and K were doing and the topic they were writing about I knew that this was going to be EPIC but never could I have imagined the level at which these two would bring it. I’m absolutely in shock. You MUST read this book. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Absolutely amazing. Major kudos to KC Lynn and K Langston on an amazing book.

excerpt

His gaze softens as he cups the side of my neck. “Jesus, you should never feel insecure. You’re fucking beautiful, Liv, bruises or not. Nothing in the world could ever change that.

I watch him carefully, his sincerity tearing through my defenses. “You really mean that, don’t you?”
He rears back, the skin between his brows bunching together in deep valleys of confusion. “Of course I do. How could you not know that?”
I shrug. “I don’t know. I guess it’s…” I pause for a moment before deciding to bare it all. “It’s hard for me to believe you still think I’m beautiful despite finding me the way you did.”
Understanding dawns and he quickly shakes his head. “No, not ever. That didn’t change the way I look at you. Yes, it fucking gutted me to see you that way, but not once did I think any less of you.” He pulls me closer while his determined gaze bores into mine. His jaw flexes, the rhythm of his chest growing heavier. “It should have never happened. Nothing so hateful should have ever touched something so beautiful. But make no mistake, Liv, when I look at you, I don’t see the girl I found that day, I see the girl who survived it all. You’re fucking beautiful, inside and out, nothing or no one will ever change that.”
My breath hitches as tears blur my eyes, his words healing my wounded soul. “You make me feel beautiful,” I choke out softly.
“Good, baby, because you are, every inch of you, and don’t ever fucking forget it.” He closes the small space between our mouths, his lips claiming mine in a heated caress as his tongue sweeps in.
