His life is dangerous.
We’re both stubborn, calculating, and controlling.
Mark Dixon doesn’t know what he’s getting into. He doesn’t know his games could cost us our lives. I have to do what is necessary to keep us alive, and that means guarding my heart.
But I know I’m defenseless against him, and in the end, he’ll force me to surrender.

My oh my ladies these men from the Salvation series make sure their presence is known. Corinne Michaels brings Mark “Twilight” Dixon into the spotlight in Defenseless. Are you ready? I know you’ve been dying just for this story like the rest of us but get ready and buckle up buttercup because you are about to go on a non-stop thrill ride with Mark and Charlie.
Mark is all alpha male. He is strong, reliable, dependable and has one helluva personality! BUT…Wait for it.. Ready. I really rarely ever find myself saying something like this. I think the standout of this story is Charlie! Can you say woman crush?
Both of these characters are extremely sexy, sassy, stubborn and full of steaming attitude and I just LOVED it. This book was different then Michaels’s others, but different is good. You go on a totally different ride on this one, yet the same lovable characters, swooniness, sexiness and downright fantastic story telling is all still here. Oh and so are the other men. *Big Smiles* You KNOW you can’t get enough of all of them, let’s be honest here!
This was a seriously big guessing game in this book. I felt like I was living in a real life CIA movie. Corinne has the ability to pull you in and make you feel like you are part of the story yet once again, but this time it’s a lot more action. I loved that this one like all the others had all the feels. While I admit, I wasn’t as teary eyed in this one, I certainly was laughing, swooning and my heart was hurting at some times. Mark’s and Charlies story is full on felt like real life. The way they act towards each other, the snarky comments, the attitudes. I was sitting here thinking this sounds like me and my husband half the time and found myself smiling through a lot of the book because of the bantering back and forth, even in stressful situations.
Defenseless is another fantastic read from Corinne Michaels. While this is a standalone read, if you haven’t dug into the stories of all these men and their ladies, I suggest you start in the beginning with the Belonging Duet and meet Jackson “Muffin” Cole. Once you start it’s like crack candy. You’ll quickly move onto Consolation with Mr. Liam “Dreamboat” Dempsey (#TeamLiam) and finally to this one. Why? Because this writer is additive and you will find yourself loving each and every character she gives you. 5 Twilight Stars – Shera, Book Lovers Obsession Book Blog.

OMG this book….I absolutely LOVED this book. Corinne has been known to rip your heart out in her previous books but this book is totally different. Mark’s smart ass personality mixed with Charlie’s take no shit personality make for some very interesting times. You do not NEED to have read the previous books in the series but I would highly recommend it.
Mark “Twilight” Dixon is as smart assed as they come. He’s part of Cole Security Forces and a member of the SEAL team that Jackson and Aaron were a part of. He’s been through hell and back just like the rest of them, but where some people would turn into themselves and become dark and depressed, Mark uses his past in order to fuel his future. He is a wise cracking funny man that will keep you on your toes throughout the book.
Charlie is a member of the CIA and has been undercover for a very long time. She was there when Aaron was kidnapped and she was there when Liam, Jackson, and Mark rescued Aaron. She is independent, fierce, and bad ass. She does things her own way on her own schedule. She is not partner material.
What happens when Mark refuses to give Charlie the option to run? Can they both give each other what they need without stifling the other? Can you have a personal relationship that’s full of sexual tension and a working relationship that accomplishes what needs to be done?

“I made you a promise, Charlie.” Mark’s already deep voice is layered with desire.
Once again, my control begins to slip. “What’s that?”
His hands drop a little lower beside my head. His lower body shifts so his knee is between my legs. I feel his arousal against my thigh.
My traitorous body shows its own awakening. My nipples hardening through the silk material don’t go unnoticed. Heat pools in my core and my breath hitches. I want him. There’s no use denying it.
“I told you I’d kiss you again. If you don’t stop me now, there’s no getting away.”
I should stop him. I need to stop him. There’s no way in hell it’s going to happen, though. I’m craving his lips again.
He gives me one second before he crushes his mouth against mine. His entire body shifts forward, and now I’m trapped. There’s nowhere to go. Nowhere to move that’s not Mark. He takes every part of my mind and body. Our hands roam each other as his tongue slides against mine. Passion ignites between us; it sets the room on fire. His fingers cup my neck and then glide down the front of my dress. His hand brands my skin as he takes his time exploring the open skin between us.
My fingers grip the lapels of his tux, holding him, molding him to me. I can’t get close enough. Our mouths stay fused as we both lose control.
Then my mind snaps.
I push back and my hands fly to my lips. They’re swollen, bruised from the force of the kiss. His hands brace against the wall. I keep my eyes downcast. I can’t believe I just did that, against the damn wall, at a ball commemorating my father.
I shift my dress, rake my fingers through my hair, and pull myself together.
“Charlie . . .” Mark finally speaks. It sounds like shouting even though it’s only loud enough for us to hear.
“That was the last time that will ever happen,” I say with no tremor to my voice. “Tonight we become partners. It’s not about whatever this is.” I shift my hands between us. “It’s about finding the information we’re both searching for.”
“And what if we find something else?”
“We shut it down. There’s no room for feelings in this world.”
Mark pushes back, giving me space. I instantly feel cold. “Okay, then. Have it your way.”
This is what I wanted, what we both need, but suddenly I wish it wasn’t. I wish I could pull him close, kiss him, fuck him, and just feel.
But wishes are for little girls.
