Falling in love is easy.Falling out of love is the hardest thing in the world.
And Elin and Ty Whitt are terrible at it.
The first time the local basketball star smiled at Elin, she was a goner. It was just so damn easy to fall for the dark-haired hometown hero with his charming smile and strong, athletic build.
Thousands of sleepy smiles, aimless drives down country roads, and squeaks of the backdoor after a swing shift later, reality hits. And it hits hard. Falling in love was definitely the easy part. Watching it break apart was impossible.
Through the tears, the second-guesses, the memories of a life built together, the world keeps spinning. With each turn comes clarity and hope—sometimes in the form of a pair of muddy boots by the back door or from the words of a wise friend.
When Ty shows back up with a new found determination to put his family back together, Elin’s torn between the fights of the past and the possibility of a new start. This is the man that holds her heart, the man she loves beyond anything else. But this is also the one person in the world that can cause her the most pain.
Life’s not always easy. Love’s not for the faint of heart. But with life comes lessons and Ty and Elin have the scars to prove it. But it’s their love written in those scars that will hold them together … or break them apart.
“Bruises go away, Tyler. Scars stick around to prove you showed up for life. That you lived. That you fought. That you loved.”
I finished Written in the Scars this morning and I’ve started writing this review three different times but I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing this book is! There are no words to express how much this book effected me. This book is hands down one of the best I’ve read in 2016 and likely one of the best books I’ve ever read.
The feels were soo very real from the first page to the last page. Elin and Ty were high school sweethearts. Destined to be together from the very start. The couple that everyone looked up to and wanted to be like. Happily married and trying to start a family, Ty and Elin have it all. Until they don’t.
“You can’t expect a relationship to succeed based on the love you felt at the beginning. It succeeds because you continue to build until the end.”
Ty is injured in an accident in the mine that he works at and this causes a downward spiral of events that proves that sometimes love may not be enough to fix everything.
I LOVED the supporting characters in this book and am hoping that we can maybe get a little more from them in the future *wink wink Addy*!
“We need to treat the people in our lives, whether it’s our spouse, parents, or friends, with care. Given them the benefit of the doubt. Lend an ear. Be sensitive to the trials they might be going through that we can’t see.”
Aside from being an amazing story this book offers so many lessons that I think everyone could use right about now. There is so much negativity everywhere and Adriana Locke has proven yet again that even in the negative, you can find something positive.
“Life isn’t easy. Love isn’t for the faint of hear. You have to just put your fears aside and go for it.”
I don’t know what I expected going into this, I mean it was a silly thing to THINK I knew what this author would give me anyways really, but I didn’t expect THAT. I didn’t see it coming. I didn’t see him coming. Heck the whole story was just brilliant. It blew my poor heart and mind into smithereens. I am still picking up pieces of it off the floor. Adriana Locke did that to me and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Written in the Scars is finally here! Be ready for the sheer epicness for what I feel is her best book yet. There is something different about this one and no matter what word I try to use to describe it, nothing does it justice. Just know the constant barrage of feelings will consume you, the story will pull you in and IT will devour YOU! Yea, don’t try to outsmart the book and make it the other way around, it won’t happen. Be ready to fall in love, break apart and become whole again as you literally walk side by side with these characters as you read. You won’t just fall in love with Ty and Elin, you’ll fall in love with them all more than you think would be possible.
and this quote…….THIS QUOTE, there were so many I highlighted, but this one, stood out the most to me because I think we often need this reminder…
“Sometimes you have to take that step back and breathe. That you can’t make insane decisions when your head is a mess. That even when you can’t walk in someone else’s shoes, you do have to try them on”
