Meet River & Marley in this emotionally twisted – unconventional stand alone by Lisa DeJong
My story isn’t a love story … not the typical kind anyway.
As a lawyer, I’m used to discovery, but I never saw this one coming.
Every day, River gives me ten reasons to stay away, and then eleven reasons why I can’t. Our relationship was to remain strictly business, or at least I tried.
Four years of marriage, and everything with Cole has changed. I never knew two people who lived together could be so distant. But I’m not ready to give up on him.
One man wants to break me.
The other is just trying to get even.
Both are lying to me.
***This is a standalone contemporary romance (though a little unconventional and twisted!)

Break Even is yet another fantastic read from Lisa DeJong. It moves a perfect pace and full of ALL the feels.
Marley is a highly successful attorney working in a law firm with her husband Cole. He inherited the firm from his father after he passed at a very young age. They seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly. At least if you are looking from the outside, but from the inside it is anything but smooth.
Their marriage is failing. They have lost that connection they once had and slowly but surely the marriage is falling apart. One thing is for sure, they did love each other. But were they still IN Love with each other?
My heart bled for Marley. I felt her hurt, frustrations, confusion and loneliness. It honestly is a true testament to what many women feel and live with every day in marriages. They all aren’t perfect and most are lacking something just like Marley and Colt are. A second chance to fix the wrongs becomes a third, a fourth, a hundred. She wants to keep pushing; wanting so bad for it to work but each and every single time she is once again let down by Colt.
When River Holtz walks into that office, limits will be pushed, feelings will be tested and desires will be front and center. That man is conceited, egotistical and well he is Marley’s new client. A client like no other that Cole has asked Marley to work with because he is out of town yet once again. How can you not fall for a man live River Holt? The cockiness draws you in; he is like a magnet with a pull you can’t get away from. He is full of surprises and when he opens up and you really SEE River, just holy mother of god. He is…….Dreamy. Spicy. Hot. Demanding. PERFECT!!
Once River walks in…. Everything changes. EVERYTHING . When she was with River, to me it felt like she was complete, a different carefree, happy person. But then you still have Cole, their marriage hangs in the balance. Everything you think you know you don’t. This book had so many twists and turns. I honestly thought I had it all figured out and then WHAM, you get the “oh no you didn’t” smack from Lisa DeJong.
Can they fix the broken? Will they Break Even or will they break apart?
I really enjoyed this book. If you are looking for something different, something that is surely hot and steamy then pick up Break Even. It’s a standalone, no cliffy, no need to wait for another book. You get the whole story and the whole very shocking truth by the last page.
